Pediatric Anesthesia Conference- Improving the quality of care: Evidence based plans for common concerns

Overview:
Cook Children's Department of Anesthesia invites you to attend our 2014 clinical conference designed to address quality improvements for commonly encountered issues in pediatric anesthesia cases in an effort to improve the quality of care. The audience includes a diverse cross-section of pediatric and general anesthesiologists, CRNA's, medical residents, student CRNA's, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. The conference will provide participants the opportunity to engage educational presentations by anesthesiologists and surgical physicians from Cook Children's Medical Center and from other well known instututions who share an interest and expertise in pediatric anesthesia.

Conference Objectives:
  • Identify patients at greatest risk for perioperative complications.
  • Describe management of worrisome preoperative history, physical and laboratory findings.
  • Discuss safety concerns related to pediatric ENT patients.
  • Apply evidence based quality improvements to efficient practice.
There will be two optional workshops available for an additional cost:
  • US Guided Nerve Block Workshop-basics and advantages of ultrasound guidance in performing nerve blocks will be described, practical knowledge about commonly performed ultrasound nerve blocks will be discussed, participants will identify the sono-anatomy of commonly performed pediatric regional anesthesia using ultra sound machines.
  • Cricothyrotomy Workshop-anatomical landmarks for cricothyrotomy will be identified, potential complications associated with a surgical airway will be described, participants will perform the steps involved in an emergency cricothyrotomy.
