|NOT ENDURING: Ethical and Legal Challenges in Crisis Care During Disasters|
|Dr. Anna Pou will share her experience treating critically ill patients in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and discuss legal reforms that can protect physicians and aid patients during disasters. |
In 2006, Dr. Pou was charged with murder in the deaths of four patients, but never indicted. Since then, she has helped write and pass three laws in Louisiana that provide legal protections for health professionals for their work in future disasters. Dr. Pou also advocates for change in the standards of medical care in emergencies.
