Stem Cell Transplant Workshop


This workshop educates nurses on these topics related to stem cell transplants.


  • Define stem cell transplant, types of transplants and diseases treated by transplant.
  • Identify and discuss the various treatment preparatory regimes used in the transplant unit.
  • Identify the educational needs of patients and families in the stem cell transplant unit.
  • Identify and discuss the components of HLA typing, donor selection and how this affects toxicity and outcomes.
  • Assess and analyze criteria of a life threatening SCT emergency and identify appropriate interventions.
  • Identify some potential complications that can occur in the stem cell transplant patient.
  • Discuss and define nutritional issues of the SCT patient.
  • Identify lab tests and results frequently seen in the SCT unit and anticipate interventions on critical values.
