Dual Language Learning for Children with Hearing Loss

Children with significant hearing loss can be bilingual, regardless of their educational landscape.  Early identification, amplification, implantation and intervention has improved our service to children whose home language is not English. This interactive, full-day workshop will provide tools and resources for assessment and intervention for children with hearing loss learning to speak another language and English.     

  1. Explain why bilingualism should be encouraged and how to facilitate in different educational and home settings for children with hearing loss.
  2. List reasons why some children may not be ready for bilingualism and discuss various options to accommodate needs.
  3. Compare and contrast different means of evaluating bilingual progress.
  4. Discuss and apply strategies that facilitate second language learning for children with hearing impairments.
